2022
This body of work, created in 2022, draws on Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake as a starting point for exploring humanity's self-destructive tendencies. Sculptural forms suggesting disembodied, sexless anatomy stand in for the novel's ChickieNobs, engineered organisms stripped of identity and purpose beyond consumption. These pieces sit alongside references to Japanese shunga imagery, layering historical and contemporary ideas about the body, desire, and artifice.
The collection also includes early sewing experiments and collage works built around celebrity culture. A large-scale piece incorporating Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears functions as a meditation on commercialism, treating fame and image the way we treat bubblegum: eagerly consumed, chewed over, and ultimately discarded.
Together, the works ask how we manufacture innocence, package identity, and mistake spectacle for meaning.
